Performance Moped Transmission Introducing Tecnomoto! New for this year is the Tecnomoto brand. A manufacturer of variators and transmission gear sets for over 20 years. While prices are increasing every year, we started looking for a quality variator comparable to Malossi. We searched and tested several different brands. Tecnomoto stood at the top for features and tuning ease. Like the Malossi unit we are impressed with the packaging and presentation when you open this kit.

Tecnomoto has a stronger torque spring than the Malossi unit and even includes shims to add a few extra pounds of pressure if needed. There are (3) sets (18)of rollers included so even more tuning options are available without buying extra rollers! The one piece roller is better for periodic maintenance so once the weight is known using the supplied rollers, when worn, just replace with the 1 piece. A small saving, but for busy shops roller costs do add up. Added to that is having the selection when installing the unit, so having a job wait for 3 days because rollers are not on hand is not an issue.

The durability of the internal drive bushing is every bit as good as the Malossi unit. The drive face is plated but attention was paid to the problem of possible peeling. The surface appears to be less polished but this is mainly to allow extra grip for the plating. Very clever attention to detail can be seen in this kit. A very versatile kit that more and more tuners will appreciate. There are two variator options. One for stock engines with or without exhaust change called the Vario. The second is for the bike with the larger cylinder displacement, exhaust and carburetor changes. This is known as the VarioPlus.

During testing it was quickly found that the only difference, really, is brand preference. Both are exceptional units with price being the only major factor. We have availability for the majority of scooters available in the U.S. so please be sure to call us for further info.

Performance Moped Variators VARIATORS The Variator is primarily meant to be used with the Bore Kit, Expansion Pipe and Carburetor modified machine. The face angle provides a drive ratio meant for the higher rpm and horsepower. The rear drive pulley spring is firmer, therefore, not only does it maintain more power under load such as hills but it also prevents belt slippage. Both variators are of a much higher quality plated aluminum alloy so wear under the higher horsepower conditions are virtually eliminated. Just look at a stock Variator after 2,000km and you will see the surface has ripples that can make the scooter feel as if it is “shifting”. This can also cause excessive belt wear. Both Malossi and Tecnomoto use a drive face bushing that is a high quality self lubricating bronze with closer tolerances and wear characteristics than on the stock unit. These Variators transmit power to the wheel and do it consistently - regardless of mileage. When it comes time to replace the stock variator, use either of these units for a one-time replacement, as it does not cost that much more than the stock unit. Strong, consistent acceleration!!

DRIVE BELTS If you’re almost going to double the horsepower of your scooter by upgrading to the cylinder kit, carb and Technigas RS exhaust combination, it just makes sense that you will soon be needing a stronger drive belt. Both Malossi and Polini offer Kevlar™ drive belts that are virtually indestructible as a result of the harder compound and actually quite affordable. We do carry a wide range of belts for the most popular scooters in the U.S. today.

CLUTCHES Aftermarket clutches effectively increase the stall RPM’s and superior clutch shoe compound provides better “bite” characteristics. Over the years we have been using Malossi and the two shoe Polini clutch with very good results. The new kid on the block is a delta clutch manufactured by Motorio out of Taiwan, preset to 5000 RPM. Preset meaning straight bolt on and in future this clutch will be appearing a lot more in the kits we put together.

Performance Moped Gear Sets PRIMARY GEAR SETS These gears are for 70cc kitted bikes that are used for long distance or operate at high rpm’s. In addition to changing the final gear ratio, they also reduce significant friction due to being straight cut/spur gears. Most stock units use a helical cut gear to reduce noise but at the sacrifice of increased friction. If you try to turn the axle by hand on the stock unit you can feel the resistance. Replace with the Malossi/Polini gears and turn the axle and you will not believe the difference. All this adds up to more power to the rear wheel.

Not to be used without a cylinder kit
For Malaguti F-12, E-Ton Beamer, Kymco Cobra and ZX models

When modifying any bike with a cylinder kit there will usually be a tendency for the belt to be pulled into the rear pulley. This is called belt slip and sometimes sounds like a fan belt on a car. Sometimes there is no noise and it can affect the take off of the machine due to it trying to take off in a higher gear. These springs eliminate this problem. Available in different grades by color. White being 10% over stock with violet 106%. For most machines yellow or red will suffice. Listed in order of spring strength:
Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, Violet

*Remember that changing the rear spring will in most cases require a change in the roller weights.
